This specimen was lot 73530 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 5 Cents, 1871. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. A RARE DATE that is the first in the series, this lightly handled example presents tremendous iridescence and a good deal of underlying brilliance as well." The type was struck in 1871-1901 and many dates are common. Despite the ample mintage, this date is rare.
