This specimen was lot 47683 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 1/2 Cent, 1862. Calcutta Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-58." This one year type is scarce despite the substantial mintage. It was accompanied by a quarter cent and one cent. Silver denominations were added in 1871, by which time the Straits Settlements had been made a colony separate from India.
Recorded mintage: 4,590,000 plus proofs.
