Stolberg in 1789, with Wernigerode to the northwest near Halberstadt

This specimen was lot 3871 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Stolberg-Wernigerode, Grafschaft Ernst, 1677-1710. Dukat 1710. Auf seinen Tod. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (County of Stolberg-Wernigerode, Ernest I, 1677-1710, ducat of 1710, on the death of the count, very rare, very fine.)"

This specimen was offered again as lot 1011 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 3,000 euro (about US$3,714 including buyer's fee). This type is accompanied by a quarter thaler, half thaler, double thaler and thaler. The next ducat was issued in 1730.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very rare.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen is 3,48 g.
