This specimen was lot 73006 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAINT THOMAS & PRINCE. 10 Escudos, 1939. NGC MS-62. A one year type with a mintage of 40,000 pieces. Attractive ash gray toning. Tough to find in Mint State." In 1939, Portugal struck one, 2½, five and ten escudos for her colony in west Africa. All are scarce in nice condition. This example realized less than half the catalog value.
