St. Helena 2022 5 pounds
The first specimen was lot 701 in Goldberg Sale 145 (Los Angeles, February 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. 5 Pounds, 2022. One pure Ounce. 32 mm. 24ct gold. Mintage only 200 struck. Elizabeth II. Reverse: Gothic Crown design of William Wyon. In original box of issue. Gem Proof." The second specimen was lot 766 in the same sale, where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. 5 Pounds, 2022. Five Ounces of pure silver. 65 mm. Mintage 300 struck. Elizabeth II. Reverse: Gothic Crown design of William Wyon. In original box of issue. Gem Proof." Neither of these NCLT's is an issue of Great Britain and neither are listed in the SCWC. St. Helena, the actual sponsor of this issue, has less than 5,000 inhabitants, so we surmise that this NCLT was not struck for local use. St. Helena and Ascension islands were merged for administrative purposes in 2003 and their separate coinage ended.
Recorded mintage: 200 in gold plus 300 in silver.
Specification: the first specimen: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 32 mm diameter. the second specimen: 155.5 g, 0.999 fine silver 65 mm diameter.
