(Switzerland, abbey of St. Gall, Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-1796, ducat of 1773, struck inside the cloister. Obverse: quartered oval arms of the abbey and the bishop, above, a mitre with two crosiers: reverse: Saint Gall seated to the left with a loaf of bread in his hand, in front of him a bear standing upright with a club; below, the mint mark H, probably for the engraver Haag. Fluted edge. Very rare. About extremely fine. Scratches on the obverse. The reverse appears to have been struck with a very rusty die.)"

The abbey struck coins until 1783; the city continued coinage after the French occupation until confederation. This one year type is rare. The monks also issued a kreuzer (KM 7), six kreuzer (KM 16), 12 kreuzer (KM 17 and KM 19) and a half ducat (KM 20) in 1773. The canton of St. Gall issued almost no coinage between 1739 and 1786.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.50 g.
