from Aureo sale 291, lot 1084

This specimen was lot 1084 in Aureo sale 291 (Barcelona, April 2017), where it sold for €35 (about US$45 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1719. Felipe V. València. 4 maravedís. MBC. (Spain, Philip V, four maravedis of 1719, Valencia mint, very fine.)"

This type was struck at Valencia 1718-20, Zaragoza 1718-20, Barcelona 1718-20 and Segovia 1719. The denomination does not seem to have been a success as no more were struck until 1741. The mintmark, to the left of the shield on the obverse, appears to be a bat-like device rather than a "V".

Recorded mintage: unknown; a common date.
