Spain 1704-S P 8 escudos
Shown is a Spanish eight escudos struck in 1704 at the Seville mint. Assayer P is recorded for the years 1704-1706. The first specimen was auctioned by Marti Hervera in Barcelona, Spain, on May 3, 2011, where it did not sell. The catalog description reads:
"8 Escudos. 1704. SEVILLA. P. Rev.: S-8/8-P. Metal poroso, normal en estas piezas. (Grieta en cospel). RARA. MBC. (eight escudos of 1704, Seville mint, assayer P, Porous metal, normal in this type. Cracked flan, RARE, very fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 256 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 7,000 € (about US$9,144 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "* 1704. Felipe V. Seville. P. 8 escudos. "Cross" type. P-8/8-S. Rare. MBC+ [choice very fine]."
This type was struck at Seville 1701-19.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.7982 troy oz AGW. The second specimen is 26.97 g.
