Spain 1603-Seg maravedi

from Steve Album sale 39, lot 3669

This specimen was lot 3669 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $144. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SPAIN: Felipe III, 1598-1621, AE maravedi, Segovia, 1603, wonderfully preserved, two-year subtype with horizontal aqueduct mintmark, EF." This type is rather scarce, being struck 1598-99 and 1602 only. The 1603 shown here is not mentioned in the SCWC or Cayón. Also, a lion/castle type (Cayón 4196 and 4197) is known for 1602. Thirty four maravedis made a real.
