This specimen was part of lot 29120 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Set 1947, the nine coin set comprising KM23-31, sold in the original blue case of issue." The sixpence was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1950 and 0.500 fine thereafter. This date is common.

Recorded mintage: 577,000 plus 2,600 proofs.

Specification: 2.83 g, 0.800 fine silver, 19.4 mm diameter.
