This specimen was part of lot 29120 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Set 1947, the nine coin set comprising KM23-31, sold in the original blue case of issue." The florin or two shillings was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1950 and 0.500 fine thereafter. The 1947 was the last date bearing the obverse legend as "GEORGIUS VI REX IMPERATOR."
Recorded mintage: 2,892 plus 2,000 proofs.
