This specimen was part of lot 42640 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), which sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Proof Set (8 Pieces), 1946. Pretoria Mint. George VI. All PCGS Certified. ...5) 3 Pence. PCGS PROOF-64. ...With original case of issue. From the Richard Margolis Collection." The threepence was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1950 and 0.500 fine thereafter. This date is fairly common.

Recorded mintage: 2,219,000 plus 150 proofs.
