This specimen was lot 24730 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $5,581.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Half Crown 1923, NGC MS64. First year of a 3 year type. Light bag marks but a very strong strike. Relatively available in circulated conditions, but very difficult to obtain in nice Mint State. From The Ted Reams Collection." The 2½ shillings or half crown was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1930 and 0.500 fine thereafter. The later issues (KM 19.2) varies from this type by having "2½ SHILLINGS" in the reverse legend.

Recorded mintage: 1,227,000 plus 1,402 proofs.
