This specimen was lot 35119 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland: Solothurn. Canton 5 Batzen 1811 MS66 NGC. A scarcer type and most desirable in this gem presentation. Displaying a warm glow of pale amber chroma and satiny surfaces. From the Feeling Good Collection." The second specimen was lot 4468 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Stadt und Kanton, 5 Batzen 1811, Solothurn. Schräg gerippter Rand. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. Herrliche, dunkelblaue Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, five batzen of 1811, Solothurn mint. Rare in this condition, About Uncirculated, Most attractive dark blue toning.)"

This type was struck 1809 and 1811, with the 1809 being rare. Five batzen equalled one-eighth of a thaler. The last five batzen was issued in 1826 and with it the last coinage from this canton.

Specification: 4.4 g, silver, 25 mm diameter, the second specimen 4.53 g.
