Solothurn 1760 batzen KM-31
This specimen was lot 3477 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,616 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Batzen 1760, Solothurn. Eingebuchtetes Wappen, zu den Seiten jeweils ein Lorbeer- und Palmenzweig. Rv. "S" über Kreuz. Unten die Jahreszahl. Sehr selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, batzen of 1760, Solothurn mint. Obverse: indented coat of arms, a laurel and palm branch on each side; Reverse: "S" crossed, the date below. Very rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"
This denomination was struck in two styles in 1760: KM 31 ("S" on reverse, rare, shown here) or KM 32 (cross in quadrilobe, common). Forty batzen made a thaler.
