This type was struck 1992-93 for circulation. The dates 1994-2006 were struck only for collector sets and are likely scarce. It features a salamander found only in certain caves in Slovenia. To this writer's knowledge, this is the only coin to depict an amphibian. Slovenia declared its independence in 1991. In 2007, Slovenia joined the euro.
Recorded mintage: 2,515,000 plus 1,000 proofs.
Specification: 0.55 g, aluminum, 16 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Miljenko Licul, Zvone Kosovelj and Janez Boljka.
