Slovenia 1991 5000 tolarjev
This specimen was lot 2515 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $270.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Slovenia. 5000 Tolarjev, 1991 Choice Brilliant Proof. First Anniversary of Independence. Bird's beak below center of spiral. Choice Brilliant Proof." This commemorative, the first issued by the newly independent state, is accompanied by a silver 500 tolarjev (KM 1). A variety exists with the bird's beak pointing to the center of the spiral but it receives no premium. Slovenia managed to obtain her independence from Yugoslavia with only peripheral involvement in the resulting Balkan Wars. Slovenia joined the euro in 2007.
