Sironj AH 1172/1 rupee
This specimen was lot 2718 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "SIRONJ: AR rupee, Sironj, AH1172 year one (ahad), in the name of Shah Alam II (but dated one year before his accession!), pleasing XF, R." Sironj is one of the Tonk states between Gwalior and Bhopal; at the time this coin was issued, it was a vassal of Indore. Numista comments, "From 1754 (AH1168/RY#1 of Alamgir II) until 1798 (AH1212/RY#40 of Shah Alam II) Sironj was held by Indore as a feudatory. This Rupee is listed under the reign of Shah Alam II, but it was [dat]ed the year before his reign began."
