Silesia 1740 ducat Fr-376
This specimen was lot 1596 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Karl VI. 1711-1740. Dukat 1740, Breslau. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Charles VI, 1711-40, Rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"
This type was struck without interruption 1726-40. A younger bust was used 1717-24 (KM 813). After Karl's death in 1740, Frederick of Prussia invaded and occupied Silesia, setting off the War of the Austrian Succession. Despite determined Austrian attacks, the Hapsburgs were never able to recover it.
