Silesia 1646-MI 1/2 thaler KM-340
This specimen was lot 5510 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,652 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand III. 1625-1637-1657. 1/2 Reichstaler 1646, MI, Breslau. RR Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung "Cygnus in Nummis". (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1625-57, half thaler of 1646, Breslau mint. Very rare, attractive example with handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"
This type, struck 1638-57, is not listed as expensive; this specimen realized seventeen times the catalog value. Another half thaler, KM 366, was struck 1646 and 1650 and lacks a photo in the SCWC. It seems to lack the inner circles seen on this example.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 14.25 g.
