from Künker sale 352, lot 2139

This specimen was lot 2139 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$5,289 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHLESIEN, LIEGNITZ-BRIEG, HERZOGTUM, Johann Christian und Georg Rudolf, 1602-1621. Dukat 1607, Reichenstein. GOLD. R Kl. Henkelspur, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, John Christian and George Rudolf, 1602-21, ducat of 1607, Reichenstein mint. Rare, small mount mark, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. The coinage ceased when the last of the local dukes died in 1675. This scarce type was struck 1606-09.
