Künker Auction 425, lot 1152

This specimen was lot 1152 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,699 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"EUROPÄISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · ITALIEN, SIZILIEN Karl von Bourbon, 1734-1759. Oncia d'oro 1735, Palermo. GOLD. Min. justiert, fast Stempelglanz Exemplar der Auktion Gerhard Hirsch Nachf. 224, München 2002, Nr. 1893. (Italy, kingdom of Sicily, Charles of Bourbon, 1734-59, gold oncia of 1735, Palermo mint. Minor adjustment marks, about uncirculated.)"

Two different oncie were struck in 1735; confusingly, they have the same Friedberg number. The first (KM 152, shown here) has a short haired bust and an eagle displayed on the reverse; the second (KM 154) has a long haired bust and an eagle rising in flight left. KM 152 was struck 1735 only and KM 154 was struck until 1747.
