Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 206

This specimen was lot 206 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,056 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1733. Carlos III, Pretendiente. Palermo. CP-SM. 6 tari. Muy bella. Brillo original. Muy rara así. EBC+. (kingdom of Sicily, Charles III, pretender, Palermo mint, six tari of 1733. Very handsome, original luster, very rare thus, choice extremely fine.)"

Charles II, the last Hapsburg king of Spain, was also king of Naples and Sicily. After his death the area passed out of the hands of the Spanish crown, only to be reconquered by them in the 1730's. In the interim, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor 1711-40, was also king of Sicily 1720-34. This half piastra was struck 1732-33.
