Sincoa sale 39, lot 3716

This specimen was lot 3716 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$144 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | Naples. Sicily, Carlo III. 1707-1734 4 Tari 1731. Palermo. Sehr schön. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of Naples and Sicily, Charles III, 1707-34, four tari of 1731, Palermo mint. Very fine. Minor adjustment marks.)"

Charles II, the last Hapsburg king of Spain, was also king of Naples and Sicily. After his death the area passed out of the hands of the Spanish crown, only to be reconquered by them in the 1730's. In the interim, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor 1711-40, was also king of Sicily 1720-34. This coin is mentioned in Montenegro[2] for 1730-31 as equal to one-third piastra.
