Seychelles 1975 5 cents
This specimen was lot 70203 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "SEYCHELLES. 5 Cents, 1975. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-64. A scallop shaped FAO issue, this near-Gem displays soft luster and just a touch of handling. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This specimen was issued by Seychelles as part of the F.A.O. series. It was accompanied by an aluminum cent (KM 17) featuring the head of a cow. Seychelles, an island group in the Indian Ocean, is better known for its export of cinnamon, copra and vanilla; one wonders why a cabbage plant is featured on the coin. This type was also issued in 1972.
Recorded mintage: 2,200,000.
Specification: 0.77 g, aluminum, 18.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 18.
