Serbia 1917 20 para
This specimen was lot 1161 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "SERBIA: Peter I, 1903-1918, 20 para, 1917, a superb example, PCGS graded MS65, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type, struck during Serbia's brief term of independence, is known for 1883-84, 1904, 1912 and 1917. The 1912 is the most common date. The 1917 was manufactured in Providence, Rhode Island, by the Gorham Mfg. Co. Serbia was conquered and occupied by the Austrians during World War One but reemerged after the war as the kingdom of Yugoslavia. The monarchy was overthrown by Nazi occupation in 1940 and Yugoslavia was reconstituted as a republic under Communist rule in 1945.
