This franc-sized coin was struck at Vienna during the brief existence of the kingdom of Serbia (1878-1918). The type is noted for 1904, 1912 and 1915. Serbia was conquered and occupied by the Austrians during World War One but reemerged after the war as the kingdom of Yugoslavia. The monarchy was overthrown by Nazi occupation in 1940 and Yugoslavia was reconstituted as a republic under Communist rule in 1945.
