This specimen was lot 46034 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 40 Shillings, 1699. Edinburgh Mint. William II. NGC VF-25. Glossy with dark tone and steely blue iridescence on the obverse. Well centered and evenly defined. From the Loch Ness Collection." This type, struck 1695-1700, is roughly equal to four English shillings. The Act of Union in 1707 ended the Scottish coinage.
