This specimen was lot 2292 in Goldberg sale 115 (Los Angeles, February 2020), where it sold for $54. The catalog description[1] noted, "Scotland. 5 Shillings, 1697. William II (III of England), 1694-1702. Bust left with value below. Reverse: Crowned thistle. Very Good to Fine." This type, struck 1695-1700, is roughly equal to a British sixpence. The Act of Union in 1707 ended the Scottish coinage.
