Künker sale 406, lot 4731

This specimen was lot 4731 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,100 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN / SCHOTTLAND, Mary, 1542-1567. Ryal 1565, Edinburgh. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Scotland, Mary, 1542-67, ryal of 1565, Edinburgh mint. Scarce, especially in this quality, handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Davenport lists this type for 1565-67 and the specimen shown in his catalog displays the countermark of 1571, which raised the value from thirty shillings to thirty-three shillings.
