This specimen was lot 43961 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Groat, ND (1526-39). James V (1513-42). NGC EF-45. Second coinage. Impressively struck with minimal doubling and showcasing original toning that ranges from greenish gray to dark brown. As a type, extremely desirable and highly coveted in this lovely quality. From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II." The groat was traditionally eight Scottish pence.
