Schwyz 1779 rappen

Sincona sale 94, lot 3194

This specimen was lot 3194 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 165 CHF (about US$229 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schwyz, Rappen 1779, Schwyz. Silberabschlag. Sehr selten. Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Schwyz, Very rare, Fine-Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1777-82 with the 1777 being the most common. This is an off-metal strike for presentation. One thaler made 120 rappen (nowadays, 100 rappen = one franc).

Specification: 1.68 g, copper, 18 mm diameter.
