Schwarzenberg in 1789

This specimen was lot 1995 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Schwarzenberg, Fürstentum, Adam Franz, 1703-1732. Groschen o. J. (1722), Nürnberg. Auf die Geburt des Erbprinzen Josef Adam. Gekröntes Schwarzenbergsches Wappen mit Lorbeerzweigen. Rv. Neun Zeilen Schrift. Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. (principality of Schwarzenberg, Adam Francis, 1703-32, undated groschen, Nurnberg mint, on the birth of crown prince Joesph Adam. Very rare, Good very fine.)"

Altho the auctioneers call this piece undated, it actually has a date as a chronogram. Schwarzenberg was wedged between Wurzburg and Bayreuth and passed to Bavaria in 1806. The prince was accidentally shot and killed by the emperor during a deer hunt. He was 51 years old.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
