This specimen was lot 74675 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Taler, 1764-ICE. Saalfeld Mint. Johann Friedrich. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. This example offers satiny surfaces with the barest hint of rose highlights. A scarce two-year type; attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This is the first of five thalers issued by this fragment of the Saxon duchies in the eighteenth century. The line survived until World War One. This type was struck 1764-65 and is scarce.
