This specimen was lot 1048 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 5,750 CHF (about US$6,980 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DENMARK. Christian VII. 1766-1808. Speciesdaler (60 Schilling) 1787, Altona. Mit den Signaturen MF und B (Michael Flor, Münzmeister in Altona, 1786-1816, und J. E. Bauert, Stempelschneider in Altona). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. NGC MS63. Prachtexemplar. (kingdom of Denmark, Christian VII, 1766-1808, specie daler or sixty schilling of 1787,Altona mint, with mintmaster's initials "MF". Rare in this condition, About uncirculated, Cabinet piece.)"

This thaler was struck 1787-1808 by the king of Denmark in his capacity as duke of Schleswig-Holstein. A very similar design was used for an 1801 speciedaler in Denmark (KM 651) but is much rarer. Post-1800 issues of this type are catalogued as Dav-70. Schleswig was Danish-speaking while Holstein was German; the conflicts arising therefrom led to the whole region being conquered and annexed by Prussia in the 1860's.

Recorded mintage: 412,000.

Specification: 28.89 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen 28.89 g.
