Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp 1680 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 4377 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,402 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN, HOLSTEIN-GOTTORP, HERZOGTUM, Christian Albrecht, 1659-1694. 1/2 Reichstaler 1680, auf den Tod seiner Schwester Sophia Augusta, Gemahlin des Fürsten Johann von Anhalt-Zerbst, am 12. Dezember. Ohne Münzmeisterzeichen. Ein von der Sonne bestrahlter und von Winden bestürmter Felsen im Meer, der an der Vorderseite das Monogramm der Fürstin trägt und auf dessen Spitze ein Herz steht, l. Segelschiff//Zehn Zeilen Schrift. RR Hübsche Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler im Randbereich, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, Christian Albrecht, 1659-94, 1/2 thaler of 1680, on the death of his sister Sophia Augusta, wife of Prince John of Anhalt-Zerbst, on December 12th. Without mint mark. Obverse: a rock in the sea, irradiated by the sun and blasted by winds, which bears the monogram of the princess on the front and a heart on the top, sailing ship left; reverse: Ten line inscription. Rare, nice patina, rim crack, very fine.)"
