Schaumburg-Pinneberg (1)617 1/16 thaler
This specimen was lot 2849 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-SCHAUENBURG: Ernst, 1601-1622, AR 1/16 thaler, 1617, a lovely example, PCGS graded MS63." Schaumburg proper is adjacent to Lippe in lower Saxony. The county of Schaumburg-Pinneberg is on the north bank of the Elbe, between Hamburg and Gluckstadt. Erected in the fourteenth century, the line fell extinct in 1640 and the county was annexed by the king of Denmark as duke of Holstein. This 1/16 thaler (equalled two schilling) was struck 1617-20. We don't know why the date was abbreviated.
