Sincona sale 91, lot 3422

This specimen was lot 3422 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$238 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Schaffhausen, Taler 1623, Schaffhausen. Fast sehr schön. Leichte Prägeschwäche. (Switzerland, canton of Schaffhausen, thaler of 1623, Schaffhausen mint. About very fine, Slightly weakly struck.)"

This thaler was struck 1620-23 and is likely the most available thaler from this canton. The city arms depict an ibex leaping, sometimes by itself or out of a castle window (as here).
