Schaffhausen 161(6) dicken
This specimen was lot 4372 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$943 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Schaffhausen, Dicken 1616, Schaffhausen. Unvollständige Jahreszahl 161. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Justiert. Die Dicken 1616 existieren nicht mit vollständiger Jahreszahl. Man trifft sie nur mit 16 oder mit 161 an. Exemplare, welche mit vollständiger Jahreszahl 1616 angeboten werden, erweisen sich bei genauem Nachsehen mit der Lupe als Stücke mit Jahreszahl 1617, bei denen die letzte Ziffer 7 am unteren Ende geschwungen sind und wie eine 6 erscheinen. Der obere, waagrechte Balken der 7 ist oftmals schlecht sichtbar oder nicht mitgeprägt, wie Los 4374 beweist. (Switzerland, canton of Schaffhausen, dicken of 1616, Schaffhausen mint, incomplete date "161". Rare, Good Very Fine, Adjustment marks. The 1616 dickens do not exist with a complete date. They are only found with 16 or 161. Examples offered with the complete year number 1616, upon close inspection with a magnifying glass, turn out to be pieces with the date 1617, in which the last digit 7 is curved at the bottom and appears to be a 6. The upper, horizontal bar of the 7 is often weak, as lot 4374 demonstrates.)"
