Künker Auction 439, lot 2846

This specimen was lot 2846 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €600 (about US$826 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, SACHSEN Friedrich August III., 1904-1918. 10 Mark 1912. Winz. Belagreste, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1904-18, ten marks of 1912. Minor deposits, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of two mark and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design. This type was struck 1905-12 and is fairly common. The Muldenhutten mint, after striking coins for the Saxon kings, later minted for the Weimar republic, the Nazis and the Communists before closing in 1953.

Recorded mintage: 75,252 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold, 19.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 1264, Fr-3849, J. 267.
