This specimen was lot 75097 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1839-G. Karlsruhe Mint. Friedrich August II. NGC MS-65. Variety with arms on reverse. A lovely Gem specimen boasting brilliant shine and a frosty nature to the devices. An infrequently witnessed type in this elevated condition." This type was struck 1839-49 to the Prussian standard. Soon after, the "vereinsthaler" standard (18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver) was adopted and used until unification in 1871.
