Sincona sale 66, lot 1196

This specimen was lot 1196 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,924 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1806 Königreich | Albertiner. Anton, 1827-1836. Konventionstaler 1829, Dresden. Fleissprämie der Bergakademie Freiberg. Sehr selten. Nur 200 Exemplare geprägt. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Anton I, 1827-36, convention thaler of 1829, Dresden mint, prize for the mining academy at Freiburg. Very rare. Only 200 pieces struck, Good extremely fine.)"

Davenport consigns this rare issue to his list of "pseudo-thalers" as it was used as a scholastic prize, not a circulating type. It is, however, listed in the SCWC along with KM 1120 and KM 1121 for 1829.

Recorded mintage: 200.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, .321 troy oz ASW, this specimen 27.91 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1122, Kahnt 437. Thun 311. Dav-991.
