Saxony 1824-GS thaler Dav-862A
This specimen was lot 388 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,591 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum, ab 1806 Königreich, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827. Konventionstaler 1824, Dresden. Ausbeute. NGC MS64. Prachtexemplar. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I, 1763-1827, convention thaler of 1818, Dresden mint, for the mines. Cabinet piece, Finest certified by NGC.)"
Mining thalers were issued in two varieties in 1824: Dav-862 ("ZEHN EINE FEINE MARK") and Dav-862A ("ZEHN EINE F. M."). The latter is shown here. The photo in the SCWC for KM 1097/Dav-862 incorrectly shows this issue.
