Saxony 1821-IGS thaler Dav-858
This specimen was lot 5883 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August I. 1806-1827. Konv.-Taler 1821 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1820 geändert), IGS. Ausbeute. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtvolle Patina, vorzüglich +. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I, 1806-27, convention thaler of 1821, 1821/0 overdate, for the mines. Scarce in this quality, choice patina, extremely fine or better.)"
This type was struck 1817-21 to promote the kingdom's silver mines.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarcer than the regular issue (KM 1077).
