Stack's Bowers September 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74670

This specimen was lot 74670 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1821-IGS. Friedrich August I. NGC MS-64. A stunning example of this type with great luster, white argent toning, and gold and cobalt highlights. This coin will be an incredible addition to the successful buyer's collection." This type was struck 1817-21 and is common. The contemporaneous mining thaler (Dav-858) is scarce.
