Saxony 1818-IGS thaler Dav-858
This specimen was lot 387 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,591 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum, ab 1806 Königreich, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827. Konventionstaler 1818, Dresden. Ausbeute. NGC MS64. Prachtexemplar. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I, 1763-1827, convention thaler of 1818, Dresden mint, for the mines. Cabinet piece, Finest certified by NGC.)"
This mining thaler was struck 1817-21. Confusingly, the photo the SCWC shows for this type is actually the more common regular issue thaler (KM 1077/Dav-857).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 1078, Kahnt 423, Thun 299, Dav-858.
