This specimen was lot 2855 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAXONY: Friedrich August I, 1806-1827, AR 1/12 thaler, 1819, a wonderful quality example! PCGS graded MS64." Friedrich August was a staunch ally of Napoleon and was rewarded by being promoted to king but he waited too long to switch sides after Napoleon's defeat, for which he was punished at the Congress of Vienna by the loss of half his territory. This issue of 1819-23 is the most common of this denomination minted during his reign.
