This specimen was lot 74595 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1772-EDC. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August III. PCGS AU-55. A wholesome Taler with wear visible only on the obverse bust hairline. The fields exhibit pleasing soft luster and the obverse is well toned." This thaler of 1769-79 was accompanied by a mining thaler (KM 993.1) for 1772. It is fairly common. Friedrich August III did not pursue the Polish adventures of his ancestors and prosperity began to return to Saxony.
