Künker sale 263, lot 1280

This specimen was lot 1280 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,421 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-COBURG-EISENACH, HERZOGTUM Johann Casimir, 1624-1633. Reichstaler 1633, Saalfeld, auf seinen Tod. R Feine Patina, winz. Randfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach, John Casimer, 1624-33, thaler of 1633, Saalfeld mint, on the death of the duke. Scarce, toned, edge cracks, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This variety was minted 1633 only. This division of the Saxon lands lasted 1572-1638. Saxe-Neu-Gotha dates from 1640.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
