This specimen was lot 71047 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Old Gotha. Taler, 1626. Saalfeld Mint. Johann Casimir & Johann Ernst II. PCGS AU-55. An extrem[e]ly well [struck] example of the type with sharp details and a handsome dark patina." This variety was minted 1623-29 only. This division of the Saxon lands lasted 1572-1638. Saxe-Neu-Gotha dates from 1640 and later became Sax-Gotha-Altenburg.
